Almost Lost $50!

May 28th, 2007 at 04:21 am

A year ago we purchased a cool gift certificate deal for a pizza place near here. "Buy a $25 gift certificate, get one free." We bought 2 and rec'd 2 more. We had only used 2 of them in the last year and had 2 left to use.

Just this morning dh thought maybe it would be good to use them today as a treat for us all. We found them and they expired YESTERDAY!!!

Just for kicks we called the restaurant and asked if they would honor it 1 day late. We were so thrilled when they said they would even give us to the end of the month!

Not sure if I could have lived with myself if we'd have "lost" $50 because of missing the deadline by 1 day.

Blessings to Fox's Pizza Den for their generosity! And you can believe that I'll be watching those expiration dates more closely . . . Smile

Many states now have laws stating that gift certificates can't have an expiration date. The company got the money. They have to honor the certificate.

While cleaning recently, my wife found a $100 GC to Ruth's Chris. It was nearly 3 years old and said on the card that it expired 2 years from date of issue. I called the 800 number and checked and they said it was still good. They had eliminated expiration dates from all GCs. So we sold it on ebay and got $99.01 for it!

I write mine on my kitchen calendar, so I am sure to use them. Most of ours are ones we got from our wedding, or ones the girls earned at school thru reading programs.

To disneysteve: That is so cool that you were able to sell for nearly the whole amount! Esp with a gift card that was lost and now found.

To mom-from-missouri: Great idea to put it on the calendar. Why didn't I think of that??
