DH got a raise - Then again, maybe not

June 8th, 2007 at 04:57 pm

It's that time of the year for dh's annual raise, which amounts to around $50/month. THEN he found out that our charges for health insurance will be going up by about the same amount.

So, essentially no raise. Inflation, gas prices going up, kids getting bigger and needing/eating more, . . . wages are the same.

Hmmm, time for me to get more creative OR get a job. Really - time for me to get on my knees and pray for wisdom. Thanks for letting me vent.

Same thing happens with my pension. The COLA amazingly parallels the increase in health insurance costs. Frown
The saving grace is that one is on a fiscal year beginning in July, and the other begins in January. I get six months of my "raise" before it's absorbed.

Oh I hear you, I have often noticed that health insurance (sneaky little devils) exactly parallels the amount of raise you get...how do they do it????

That happened to us two years ago. Then they raised medical again this year in Jan without any raises. So he was actually bringing home less money than he had been two years ago. Fortunately he got a real raise the end of April, but it was frustrating while it lasted, what with everything else going up so much.
