Can You Sell on eBay with DSL?

June 22nd, 2007 at 11:48 pm

We have cable internet and I'm looking into switching to DSL to save $$. I'm wondering, though, if it would make selling on eBay (downloading pics, etc) hard to impossible.

The other thing that I need to consider is that we have all of our outgoing phone calls through an internet phone service (VOIP - Sunrocket - $17 per month). So, all that has to be calculated to see if it would really save us money or not.

Just checking to see if anyone sells on eBay with DSL . . . Thanks!

I do not have DSL but I do have high speed wireless internet through Verizon and have not had any problems with selling on Ebay or loading pics. I am assuming it is basically the same

The fact that you are switching from Cable to DSL shouldn't have any bearing on your ability to conduct eBay auctions....

Do you mean that you are also downgrading your bandwidth as well? Even so, typical DSL is plenty fast to upload images for example.

So, I would think that it should be perfectly fine.

We sold on e-bay from a 56K modem for quite a while. It's just a photo upload, not a movie or music one. Only took a minute, so I'm sure DSL will be fine and dandy.

I've been selling on ebay for over 10 years. The first several years were with dial-up and ever since has been with DSL. Works just fine. There is very little speed difference between DSL and cable (no matter what the Comcast ads imply). I've got DSL at home and cable at work so I use both on a daily basis and there really isn't any noticeable difference.

Do they have plans in your area where you can get DSL without having a land line active? They just recently introduced that (publicly, it was available before but you had to ask and ask and ask) here. I don't know what the cost of it is but I know if you look at cable vs DSL with required land line phone costs the same. I'm sure the DSL without a land line costs a little cheaper, just don't know if it's enough less to bother with the activation fee. Unless of course you found a good special...
