Pregnancy Cravings - and using what you have

July 27th, 2007 at 04:14 pm

I really don't get too many pregnancy cravings, usually. Early in this pregnancy I wanted Cheetos all the time! They didn't even have to be name-brand, just cheese puffs was fine. Fortunately, that craving went away several months ago.

Last night I was having a weird night. I didn't want to stay awake, but I didn't feel like going to sleep. I didn't want to lay around, but I also didn't feel up to doing any projects. I also felt like eating something, but nothing sounded good.

Finally after giving it some thought, the only thing that sounded good was a fruit smoothie. Of course it was about 10:30 and everything was closed. I remembered we had frozen strawberries and ice cubes, then also remembered that we had some apple juice in the fridge (juice around here is pretty scarce). My wonderful daughter blended those ingredients up for an awesome smoothie!

And the fact that it cost NOTHING was the best part of all!

The funny thing is I am not much of a milk drinker and I drank milk like a fiend with my first - craved it constantly. I just kept a 2 gallon at work.

With my second it was fruit. Even more strange since I did not like fruit at all. About the only way I would eat fruit was blended up in a smoothie so I just made 1-2 smoothies every day for the few months this particular craving last. Sure beat buying smoothies by a mile! Big Grin I had never gotten all my fruit servings before or since, that I should. Extremely bizarre. I threw in tons of yogurt and whole milk because I was starving but wanted nothing but fruit - trying to make it high-cal and fill me up a bit. There were days I would tell dh I could eat NOTHING but fruit and he was like, "who is this person?????" HE went from telling me to eat more fruit/veggies to please eat soemthing else - hehe. It's so funny how your body changes. I was eating other raw fruits but only the smoothies would fill me up at all.

But I second the home-made fruit smoothies for pregnancy. Yum!

I never ate raw tomatoes til I was pregnant with my third child. I loved them in sauces, stewed etc. but not just plain tomatoes. Suddenly, I was craving them and ever since then I love tomatoes! Weird! I also definitely found that anything tasted better when I was pregnant if I did not have to make it myself.

good going, using what you had. I have never liked macaroni and cheese but craved it all through my pregnancy (KFC's is best by far). We went through so much mac and cheese, DH thought I was losing. The minute DS was born, I have not been able to even look at Mac and cheese, weird how they have their little preferences even before birth!

I got hooked on Cheeto's when I was in grad school. I came home from class each day and watched "Price is Right" while scarfing down Cheeto's. I think it was comfort food for my stress!

I can't eat BBQ any more. First pregnancy killed it. I don't even like the smell of it! That was sweet of your daughter to whip it up for you!
